Girl Child (Part B) by Gbolahan Justice

Part B

Why must the male lead in politics
And the female carry files as Personal Assistant?
Why can't the male be the secretary
While the female give orders?

Why's there so much injustice in the land?
She is not different from her male counterpart
Why can't we have a society of
Full house husbands and wives as breadwinners?

Oh! You're shocked? It is wrong?
We say no to a society of equality
That's only preached and practised
In the kitchen and the other room.

Her right is not to be trodden upon
But explored towards making a difference
In the street, a hope for the unborn;
A life for the living.

We have had enough marginalization
Enough of segregation
No, to, "I want a male child"
Èwo ni òkín se omo?
Èwo ni o lèdá?

Ask from the barren woman?
She has a lot of stories to tell.
She sure knows her importance
Go to the mad woman with the same question
What response did you get?

But you're here,
Selecting with the tips of your  thumb and first finger
Joined together with that disdain expression
Written all over your face

(Order! in the court room)

This is my Judgment!
Child is child, male or female!
Accept it with joy and be happy
Or else, you will die of headache

You better rejoice in a female
That will not bear your name
Yet, retains your legacy,
Than a male that will retain your name
But still destroys your legacy.

I rest my case!
I rise!
Court!
