Girl Child (Part A) by Gbolahan Justice

She's a girl because she is
A girl with two personalities
Made to always change it like garment
Depending on the occasion.

The society says gender, Biology says sex
She's a girl and you imprisoned her
She must not have friends
Caged in a mirage called life

She's so pretty that
It seems like stepping out
Will corrupt her beauty;
Virgin lips, virgin soul

She's good only for house chores
But not good for the society
She wears out easily
Under the constant load of work

I wonder if there's a change to this
Because she deserves a free soul
Overprotected but underdeveloped
Overprotected but still feels unsafe

No wonder they carry babies in their puberty
Sold to slave of marriage in their teens
Not made to enjoy life as the male
But I ask, how is she different from him?
