Tonight, we shall dance,
And how we shall dance in sorrow
Know not I but dance we shall.
Dance to a love unknown
I am the dancer and my lover
The craft of the rhythm.
While you see this dance
Neither my sad steps and moves
Or the sorry beats of my lover's rhythm
None shall escape the night.

I wish I could be so unaware
When all around me I feel what
Turned out to be non-existent
But only in my heart - a love unknown
And yet even this song is unknown.

Oh that I discovered way too late
How unbalanced life could be
"Oh, take it easy", she calls
"calm down", she adds

But while I'm down, I am not calm.
How shall I be calm when the beats
So sadly and strongly and loudly hit my ribs?
How can I be up when they rhythm
Makes me go down and low?
What then can make not feel this love unknown?

Tonight, we shall dance,
But I call you not
For this is as solo as it is common
What else can it be?
If not a song in the cold,
Danced to by a friend in a foe
With a care untold;
